Nukak was founded in 2016 in Barcelona with the mission of reusing unused materials. Advertising banners, kitesurfing kites and truck tubes are given a second chance to extend their life cycle and become bags, backpacks and accessories.
The brand name is inspired by the Nukak Maku, the last nomadic tribe on the planet.
Design
Our design goal is to give products maximum functionality and get the best performance from materials. We analyze their qualities and develop our own prototypes. The idea is to create bags that accompany you on your daily adventures, wherever you go. That have the capacity to carry everything you need and adapt to you.
Selection
The first step when materials arrive at our workshop is sorting. When working with waste, they arrive dirty and wrinkled. We must separate the parts that can be recovered from those that are unusable. This process is done manually in our workshop. We select the most interesting surfaces to become raw material.
Cutting patterns
Once we have selected the parts that can be recovered, we move on to cutting the patterns. We choose the best graphics that will go on each part of the bag, we combine colours and we look for the seams, reliefs and prints that we find most interesting.
Cleaning
We clean each of these parts by hand. In the case of the inner tubes, we clean them beforehand in a washing machine at 90ºC. We use this process to carry out quality control on all the parts so that there are no broken or damaged parts. Sometimes we let small imperfections pass because they represent a sign of their previous life. At this point we will have converted the discarded materials into raw material for the garment.
Production
All of our bags are handcrafted. They are made in our workshop in Barcelona. Our production team takes care of every detail in the transformation process. We work ethically with local suppliers.
Second life
When the process in the workshop is finished, the bags are ready to live their second life.
